No quality without standards- KEBS Managing Director tells business entities

Kenya Bureau of Standards KEBS wants business organizations to embrace quality in producing goods and services to enhance economic growth.

In a speech read on his behalf by KEBS market surveillance Director Caroline Outa in a Mombasa hotel on Tuesday, KEBS Managing Director Benard Nguyo, said adhering to standards is a key strategy in enhancing quality production of goods and services.

I’m aware that this conference is attended by customers of both our certification body and the national quality institute and the people who are passionate about quality and want to advance their knowledge in quality and make a positive contribution tin their areas of influence,” he said

He lauded both public and private organizations for embracing quality as a catalyst for business growth.

The MD says organizations joining the National Quality Institute stay involved and learn about the latest and greatest trends and practices in the field of quality.

“We as Kenya bureau of standards seek greater partnership with you in developing standards for our country. We recently placed a public notice for people who want to be members of several of various technical committees,” he noted

The annual meeting according to the MD is meant to bring together KEBS and NQI customers, provide a forum for networking, facilitate the exchange of ideas and give customers an opportunity for feedback among others.

He further urged the organizations undertaking the certification process either in their training or audit phase to speed up with the process.

According to him it is through implementation of management standards that organizations processes are improved, customers protected and trade facilitated.

KEBS Market Surveillance Director Caroline Outa reiterated the body’s commitment to ensuring that organizations adhere to producing quality goods.

Ms Outa says Kenyans have a critical role in ensuring that products bought meet the desired standards.

“The role of us as KEBS is to ensure that Kenyans are informed about quality standard goods. The responsibility is for all of us. People forget that producers of products have a role to play also.”

The director says KEBS mandated is to ensure that business entities and Kenyans at large stay informed about quality and standard goods and services.

The 4 day event was graced by Dr Gregory Watson, a globally renowned Quality field expert and an author of numerous Quality books and speeches.

The theme of the conference is ‘Quality strategy’ or Quality as a Strategy.”
