Joy as Manyatta Youth Entertainment hold historical Anika Amani Festival in Matuga Sub County.

It was all joy as Manyatta Youth Entertainment engaged youth, women, leaders and Kwale county government  in a mega festival dubbed "Anika Amani Festival'' at Kombani social hall ground on Saturday.

The forum organized by MAYE in partnership with Forum SYD sought to promote resilience against violence and conflicts among youths within the sub county.

There was applause as youths and other like-minded stakeholders entertained the public with skillfully dramatized skits, dances, spoken word and encouraging speeches.

Dressed on white t shirts the youths started their procession from Madafuni Estate Maganyakulo ending their walk at Kombani social hall ground.

Symbolically the white t shirts depicted the prevalence of peace within the entire sub county.

Addressing journalists at Kombani grounds on Saturday, Manyatta Youth Entertainment executive director Nicholas Songora urged the locals to find the root cause of teenage pregnancies and the upsurge of juvenile extremist groups.

The director says there is need for various stakeholders including civil society organizations to collectively work together in a bid to address the situation.

“There have been an increase in juvenile and extremist groups and we the as civil society  have to look into the root cause of all these.” he said

Mr. Songora says everyone has a constitutional right to access and enjoy basic rights as enshrined in the new constitution.

Meanwhile, Niache Nikomae organization founder Karisa Fagio says teenage pregnancy has become rampant in the Coast region.

He says the menace has had a negative impact in the contemporary society.
The activist says teenage pregnancy disrupts the future of the young girls.

“Something should be done. Teenage pregnancy is very high especially in Kilifi County. Last year we recorded a total of 17,000 teenage pregnancies. That means we have to work together as stakeholders to address this situation,” he said

According to him the organization is at the fore front to ensure that young and adolescent girls remain disciplined and focused in life.

Mary Bada from forum SYD said the community has plays a critical role in ensuring that challenges facing the communities are adequately addressed.

 “We are ready to work together with various stakeholders to ensure that we address some of the challenges that adolescents face. We should make an impact in our society,” she said.

Also in attendance were Matuga sub county administrator Department of public service and administration   Nimusimu  Mwasina and Athman Jiti, Waa Ngombeni ward Administrator.

The colourful event was flagged of by Kwale county commissioner Mr. Karuku Ngumo.

Invest more in reproductive health budget- activists petition Mombasa county government

By M warandu Randu Human rights crusaders championing for youth rights have called on the Mombasa county government to pump in more funds in the health kitty in order to boost reproductive health amongst the youth.
