Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) has issued a stern warning to foreign artists staging performances in the country saying they most of them evade taxation.
KFCB Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua says the
artistes fail to pay taxes to the taxman.
“Some of these artistes who come into this country
do not pay taxes to KRA” Dr Mutua said
He said the money is mostly wired into their
accounts in their mother countries.
Mutua argued that most of the foreign artists holding
concerts in the country have been banned in their own countries but harvest
large here in Kenya.
The CEO says there is need for a joint collaboration
between various stakeholders including law enforcement agencies in the war against
on unlicensed video content.
“In fact most of these artistes receive a warm welcome
here in Kenya . But their content is banned in their own countries.
Dr Mutua states that most of the video content
played in video dens is not suitable for human consumption saying it contradicts
societal norms
He urged Kenyans to embrace their cultures by viewing
licensed video content.
“I want to tell Kenyans that they should promote
their own cultures by viewing suitable and licensed content” The CEO insisted
He says there is need for foreign artistes to abide
by the laws of the country through licensing their content
At the same time Mombasa county commissioner Evans Achoki
reiterated the government commitment regulate the consumption of video content
within the county.
“The government is committed to ensuring that video
content is regulated throughout the country” Achoki said
He also called on the security official to arrest any
individuals suspected to be operating without licenses.
Achoki says films can impact the society negatively
if not regulated by the relevant stakeholders.
“I want you security officers to enforce this regulation
with immediate effect. Arrest any person who operates a video den without licenses”
