Representatives
drawn from the six sub counties within Mombasa County have stated procedures to
dissolve Mombasa county assembly alleging incompetence of the members of county
assembly.
The move
dubbed ‘Operation Fagia Bunge” is geared towards suspending and or dissolving
the Mombasa county assembly.
“We are
representatives drawn from all the sub counties in Mombasa County. We are here
to express our displeasure to the Mombasa county assembly. Enough is enough”
Kalinga the spokesperson of the group said
Addressing
the media in Mombasa on Wednesday Mary Oyier Chairperson of the joint movement
accused the MCAs on claims of having failed to deliver to their electorates
Oyier
says instead of the MCAs focusing on the mandates vested to them by the
electorates they are busy peeping into the affairs of the county executives.
“These MCAs
have failed to deliver. They always at loggerheads with the county government. In
fact they have been pushing on for the removal of some of the county
executives, the like of Mombasa CeC in charge of transport
Oyier
said further noted that recently 36 out of the 39 MCAs voted in a motion to
remove a section of Mombasa county executives in charge of transport Tawfiq
Balala.
The One
Nation Under God (ONUG) activist lauded efforts by the county government to
improve the infrastructural frame work.
“We know
that the county government is trying in its effort to address the challenges facing
the county. These efforts however are being watered down by our county assembly
members” she claimed
The
human rights defender accused the MCAs of being at constant loggerheads the top
county officials and even calling on the impeachment of a section of the top county
officials.
She says
they have failed to pass motions that will benefit the public.
“We shall
not sit down and wait. If they have failed to deliver it is high time they go
home. They have been in feuds with Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho” she explained
Oyier
added that Operation Fagia Bunge is intending to hold a mother of a march
slated for March 12 geared at collecting over 200,000 signatures from locals in
order to dissolve the county assembly.
She says
“we shall be here on March 12 to collect over 200,000 thousand signatures from
the public to vote the county assembly out”
Meanwhile,
Operation Fagia Bunge spokesperson Mghandi Kalinga is accusing the MCAs on
claims of threatening the normal operation of the county government.
Kalinga argues
that the MCAs are busy accumulating public wealth for their own gain.
“They
have been intimidating and threatening some of the county executives. We cannot
sit back and wait. Enough is enough”
He said
the MCAs are receiving a lump sum of money of not less than ksh 0.5 million as travel
allowance and a further ksh 140,000 from the county government as office rental
allowance.
“We have
all the evidence our MCAs pocket good money when they travel over 0.5 million. While
the county government allocates them with ksh 140,000 as office rent. We don’t have
any office in any of the sub counties” he stated
Late last
week, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan slammed a section of the MCAs saying he is ready to take
home non performing MCAs.
He urged
them to concentrate on delivering services to the electorates.
