Activists in Mombasa County are calling on the county government to invest more resources to address the issue of sexual reproductive health among young people.

Speaking to the media in Mombasa on Friday Network for Adolescent and Young people of Africa Executive Director Victor Rasugu said there is a need for the county to construct more youth friendly facilities in each sub county.

“The county government should invest more in order to address sexual reproductive health among youths. More friendly facilities are needed at least two for each sub county,” he noted

He however lauded Mombasa county government saying compared to other counties it is strides higher on issues of sexual reproductive health.

The human rights defender said there exists a cordial relationship between the county health committee and other stakeholders including the civil society.

“As far as sexual reproductive health rights is concerned this county has done well which is good,” the director insisted.

Oh his part, Dream Achiever Youth Organization programs coordinator Enos Opiyo says there is need for the county to trickle down budget information down to the grass root level to ensure that citizens are informed.

He adds “there is need for the county government to increase the number of youth friendly facilities within the sub county.”

The DAYO programs coordinator further argues that there is a need for the civil society to ensure that youths access the right information on budget matters.

He challenges youth saying budget matters require commitment and intense reading to understand and analyze.

“Budget is a key issue and I want to tell youths that they have to read widely so that they can understand what it entails,” he noted.
