Coast Region Coordinator John Elungata has led
Likoni sub county local administrators in burning 16 gambling machines.
The RC says the security apparatus will not relent
in the war against the illegal machines.
“We shall not sit down and wait. These machines are
illegal the government has declared these machines illegal” he said
Addressing the media in Mombasa on Tuesday Elung’ata
said the machines were confiscated in nearby areas during a security operation
within the sub county.
He says the machines had been hidden in a local
store in the area.
The RC issued a stern warning to locals still engaging
in the illegal trade.
“This is an illegal trade. Our youths should engage
in legal trade and not this. I want the citizens to report any people still
involving in this kind of trade” he noted
The RC further urged locals to report any illegal
dealers to the relevant authorities.
He called on local administrators within the sub
county to lead the way in curbing the trade.
‘I want to tell all chiefs and the police to burn
all the machines they seize from the public. The locals should also be
patriotic and report any people still doing the business” the RC pointed out
He urged local administrators within the region to burn
any remnants of the machines.
Mr Elung’ata further insisted that the operation
will go on as long as the machines are still in the hands of the public.
At the same time Mombasa County Commissioner Evans Achoki
said the government will continue with the operation to the later.
He says all the gambling sites within the county
will be identified and wiped out.
“We have to go on with this fight. The government will
not sit back” he said
He called on locals to abide by the law adding that
no stone will be left unturned.
