Mombasa County Health Advocacy Network (MCHANE) a
civil society lobby group championing for health rights in Mombasa County has
called on health stakeholders to jointly work together in a bid to address
teething challenges facing the health sector.
The lobby groups says despite the ample resources
allocated to the health sector in Mombasa there still exists a myriad of
problems in public health sector.
“There are ample resources what we need right now is
the partnership by stakeholders in this sector” Collins Liko an activist says
Speaking to the press in Mombasa on Tuesday, Collins
Liko, a Haki Jamii human rights activist said there is a need for the county government
to invest in capacity building for its health personnel.
Liko lauded efforts by the county government to
address health concerns.
“I want to commend some of the efforts done by
Mombasa County to highlight some of the concerns in the health sector” he noted
He noted that there is a need for county governments
throughout the country to streamline their governance strategies in public
health facilities.
The human rights defender urged health stakeholders
to address some of the hurdles in the health sector.
“We want the county government to streamline its governance
strategies in public health sectors” Liko said
On his part, Tom Ng’ar, a Coast Women in Development activist
said there is a need to address the loopholes facing the health sector in the
entire county.
He urged stakeholders to closely work together with
the civil society in order to identify some of the teething gaps.
“We need to address some of these gaps in the health
sector. There is a need for the county government to work together with us so
that we can highlight some of the loopholes” Tom outlined
The activist is of the opinion that Mpesa payment transaction
in some of the public health facilities still poses a challenge to the disabled
community.
Mombasa County has been at the forefront in
championing for health rights with some of the hospitals being elevated to
provide efficient services to the citizens.

Network is a network that brings together all civil society organizations in Mombasa
County.
It gives an opportunity
to members’ organizations to share, discuss health concerns within Mombasa County.
MCHANE network is formed by the support of Haki Jamii organization in order for network members to be capacity built and improve their advocacy skills.
