Unearth the Cause of Our Kin’s Disappearance, Family Petitions Government

A family in Bamburi Mombasa County has asked the government to investigate a forceful disappearance of their kin allegedly abducted by police officers.

The victim, David Tuitumu is alleged to have been forcefully abducted by armed men near Mombasa Primary School on August 14 this year.

Speaking to the media in Mombasa on Tuesday, Regina Karimi the victim’s wife there is need for the government to execute justice in the case by investigating his disappearance.

She says her husband a businessman operating a legal business has no criminal record or whatsoever.

“We reported the matter to the Central Police and Urban Police Station. They have been telling us to wait as they carry on with the investigation but in vain,” she said.

According to her the last phone call to him went unanswered as no one picked the call.

Ms Karimi notes that the couple have been living together for the past 20 years without any domestic feud.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Mutethia, a son said their kin was the only pillar of the family.

He wants the government to investigate the case and shed light on his (victims) disappearance.

“He was the bread winner. We are two of us and currently in the university and entirely depend on him. We do not see any light at the end of tunnel,” he explained.

Mutethia further urged Kenyans to report any traces of him to the relevant authorities.

Haki Africa executive director Hussein Khalid said security is a concern to Mombasa locals.

Khalid urged the government to unearth all those involved in the case and face the wrath of the law.

“Since January to date we have documented a total of 19 cases. Out of these 6 person allegedly abducted have been found and united with their families,” he said.

He notes that cases of enforced disappearance have become rampant in the Coast region.

Haki Africa Rapid Response officer Mathias Shipeta says cases of forceful disappearance have become rampant in the region.

According to him Kenyans have no faith in their own government due to an increase of in cases of enforced disappearance.

“We have security cameras located in every corner of this county. It is now worrying that on daily basis we continue to record these cases,”
