Police and DCI apprehend a woman in Malaba who has been defying court orders

By Our Reporter The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) working with police in Mombasa apprehended a woman in Malaba who has routinely defied court orders to share custody of a minor with his father in line with court ruling on the matter four months ago. The woman who doubles up as the minors mother as well as a litigant in a child custody case with her former lover was granted the child by a Mombasa High Court to share his custody equally with the father but vanished with the child, prompting a court sanctioned search for her that took four months. Prioritize on the Reproductive Health of Young People, Counties Told

BY PETER KOMBE Lobbyists in Mombasa County have urged county governments to prioritize on the reproductive health of young people terming it a basic concern. They (lobbyists) were speaking in Mombasa on Monday during a youth forum organised by Network for Adolescent and Youth of Africa NAYA, a non-governmental organisation based in Nairobi in partnership with Mombasa based youth organizations. Network for Adolescents and Youth of Africa NAYA executive director Victor Rasugu asked counties to ensure that they fully involve young people in all budget making processes at all levels. He said reproductive health is a concern amongst young people. 900 Tones of waste generated in Mombasa County daily

BY PETER KOMBE< A total of 900 tones of waste is generated daily in Mombasa County, The department of Environment, Waste Management and Energy has revealed. Mombasa County Executive Committee member in charge of the department Godfrey Nato says 80 percent of the same is organic waste generated in households and the kitchen. He further notes that 80 percent of Mombasa County have an access to waste collectors. Mr. Nato was speaking to the media in Mombasa after witnessing the signing of a partnership with the worldwide fund and Petco a recycling company. He cites lack of infrastructure to recycle waste in the entire county. “Women are front line managers of waste. 80% of this waste is organic produced in houses and in the kitchen,” said the CEC. According to the stakeholders it (government) is paying particular attention to the standard gauge railway. They further insist that the government has imposed punitive measures to some mediums of transport including matatus and busses. No graft case will go unpunished- Wabukhala

EACC Chairman Eliud Wabukhala said the commission ensures that all reported cases are conclusively dealt with in accordance with the law. Psychosocial support, key in addressing mental health, lobbyists

BY PETER KOMBE A section of lobbyists in Mombasa County have called on parents to offer psychosocial support in a bid to address the challenge of mental health amongst teenage girls. The lobbyists argue that lack of psychosocial support among young girls lead to indulgence in unethical and immoral behaviours. Speaking to the media in Mombasa on Saturday, Wema Centre programs coordinator, Eunice Njoroge blamed parents saying they spare very little or no time with their families in offering guidance and counselling. “It is the duty of parents to spend time with their children especially young girls.
