Assist the underprivileged as Covid-19 bites Government petitioned

BY PETER KOMBE A section of community leaders in Mombasa County have urged the government to aid the underprivileged as the combats the spread of the corona virus. The leaders have attributed the economic strain amongst many families to the pandemic. While addressing the media in Mombasa Lubna Muhdhar, a community leader said the virus has not only affected poor families but also wealthy families. “Corona virus has affected a larger part of the Kenyan population. The rich people are by no means any exception,” said Lubna. She cited the disabled as some of the most affected lot community. Lubna added that she has been receiving phone calls from all corners of Mombasa County. Food crisis has been the order of the day. The lobbyist who also doubles as the Mama Beauty executive director took issue with the County Government claiming the hospital bills at the coast province general hospital is too high despite being a public utility. According to her patients at the hospital live in fear due to high cost of medical bills. “The hospital is no different from a private hospital. Leaders should come and assist patients with little or no income,” said Lubna further asked the government to look into the welfare of all prisoners including women prisoners. Meanwhile, Asha Mohammed from Old town ward lamented over a surge of juvenile gangs in area. She urged parents to ensure that their children do not engage in criminal activities. “I blame parents for these. Sometimes you may see young people carrying crude weapons in the streets within Old Town while their parents do not do anything about it. She asked the national government to come up with an alternative way of assisting youths in Mombasa County following a surge of criminal related cases in the recent past. “There is something that the government can do to help these youngsters. What is the root cause of them (youth) joining criminal gangs? Lubna quizzed. The county has in the recent past witnessed a surge of criminal gangs that have been terrorizing locals especially in Kisauni Sub County.

Mombasa Judge Gives Custody Of Minor to Her Sex Worker Mother

High court Justice John Onyiego has for the second time ordered that a child who had been earlier awarded to the father by a lower court which found the mother unfit to be shared among the couple. Invest more in reproductive health budget- activists petition Mombasa county government

By M warandu Randu Human rights crusaders championing for youth rights have called on the Mombasa county government to pump in more funds in the health kitty in order to boost reproductive health amongst the youth. Addressing journalists in Mombasa on Wednesday during an engagement forum organized by Dream Achievers Youth Organization, DAYO, Sheenan Mbau, an activist from the Centre for the Study of Adolescence, CSA said accessing information regarding reproductive health among the youth is still a challenge. “I’m urging the county government of Mombasa to invest more in the health budget.
