Dream Acheivers Youth Organisation CEO Seif Jira conducting an awareness campaign
Some of the civil society organizations in Mombasa County are calling on county governments to work closely with civil society organizations in order to solve some of the critical challenges facing the youth.

Speaking to the press in Mombasa on Saturday Dream Achievers Youth Organizations Chief Executive Officer Seif Jira said there is a need for counties to engage the youth in development issues in a bid to uplift their standard of living.

He said youth undergo critical challenges that require the intervention of the current leadership.

“Youth pass through challenges that need the intervention of both the county governments and the national government. Counties should work together with the civil society to realize this” Seif noted

The director said most of the work involving the youth has been left to civil society organizations adding that it is high time counties take up the challenge

He says there is a need for county governments throughout the country to initiate and involve the youth in development projects in bid to economically empower them.
He urged the youth to organize themselves in groups in order to receive funding from the youth kitty.

“All development projects reserved for the youth should be channeled to the youth themselves. This is to ensure that they are economically empowered” the DAYO CEO said

At the same time, Ali Mtenzi a youth activist from Likoni sub county Mombasa County said the county has sufficient resources to benefit the locals.

“There are ample resources in this county and if well used can benefit the targeted youth groups. Most of the youths engage in crime due to lack of jobs” he noted

He said if the resources are well utilized criminal activities will be minimized.

The activist however pointed that the youth have not been fully included in decisions that affect the general public.

“The youth should again be included in decision making that affect all Kenyans regardless of their origin
