Colleges offering journalism through back door face closure- MCK CEO warns

Tertiary Colleges and institutions offering a course in Journalism without being validly registered face a closure come end of April, the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) announced on Tuesday.

MCK Chief Executive Officer David Omwoyo says the council will officially notify Kenyans the onset of the nationwide crackdown nationwide beginning end of April.

“We shall shut down all colleges and institutions that offer journalism course through the back door. We shall give out an official announcement at the end of April” he noted

According to the CEO dozens of colleges are not registered and do not have the facilities to teach the subject.

He says some of the colleges do not have a certified journalism curricula.

“Some of these institutions are not registered and lack the facilities. They are so many in the Coast region and Nairobi and western Kenya” he said

Omwoyo however noted that the coast region and Nairobi and western Kenya are victims of the same.

The CEO warned students who have gone through the colleges that their certificates are not recognized.

“It very difficult to know the exact number of colleges in this business, but we have some in the Coast region” the MCK CEO said

He however pointed that it is difficult to know the exact number of colleges doing the business saying some of them are randomly

Invest more in reproductive health budget- activists petition Mombasa county government
