We shall train a total of 30 women and youth groups in Dongo Kundu- Faki’s office pledges

The office of the senator Mombasa County has pledged to offer training opportunities to a total of thirty women and youth groups in Dongo Kundu area Likoni Sub County.

A move that the office says will empower the beneficiaries economically more so link them to potential investors.

Speaking to Dongo Kundu residents in Likoni sub county on Saturday Likoni sub county coordinator Shekuwe Naaman urged the locals to flock in multitudes of numbers to ensure they seize the available opportunities.

“We shall train 15 youth groups and 15 women groups in the next two weeks. I have noted with a lot of concern the challenges that you face. And as a representative in the office of the senator I’m ready to support you,” he said.

He tasked Manyatta Youth Entertainment MAYE with the responsibility of registering all willing residents.

He thanked MAYE for the unending support in ensuring that youths do not engage in vices such as violent extremism.

“I want MAYE to undertake the entire process of registering these groups. You can come as a group and register here so that we empower you,” Shekue said.

At the same time, Likoni constituency office manager Mohammed Salim further pledged to drill two boreholes in the area in a bid to contain the unending water shortage.

He further promised to renovate the ANIKA Centre roofing which according to MAYE Chief executive officer Nicholas Songora has serious leaks allover.

He says the office is cognizant of the existing water shortage assuring the locals that it will soon be managed.

“We know that there is always a shortage of water in this area. I want to say that my office is ready to do this. I will drill two bore holes,” he said.

Mohammed reiterated the commitments by the office to ensure that challenges facing locals are adequately addressed for the benefit of the common man.

He urged the locals to speak up with one voice insisting that it is the only way to address some of the issues affecting them.

“I want all of you to speak with one voice. Let’s all work together with MAYE so that we can realize our goal,” he noted.

Mohammed further claimed that there are agents buying cheap portions of land from Mwangala and Dongo Kundu areas along the Dongo Kundu bypass urging them to remain awake and avoid selling their land at a throw away price.

Meanwhile, Manyatta Youth entertainment MAYE Executive director Nicholas Songora assured the locals that all the said pledges are implemented within the stipulated time without failure.

He however says youths have a tendency of distancing themselves from development projects.

“Don’t think that you will escape this. Each and every pledge you have made here will be tracked until we see it done. We know of people who have been making false promises. But I want to tell you that we are behind your backs,” he said.

According to him the SAVET project seeks to address some of the biting concerns among young people within the sub county.

 The two leaders lauded MAYE'S efforts in uniting stakeholders to support youth development and peace building.
