A Kenya Ferry Services employee is the winner of the Kshs 22 million Sport-Pesa mid-week jack pot.

Speaking to the media in Mombasa on Monday Ezekiel Oimba, a 39 years old and a father of four said he has been betting over the last three years.

“I have been involving myself in the betting for about three years now. I began betting with sportpesa since 2016” he noted

Answering the question on whether he would quit his current job, Oimba firmly said'' No. Being on leave, i will take my family to the destination they prefer for their holiday. I cannot quit my job. I'm still in Mombasa and will stay here"

He says he received the news of his win on Saturday evening.

The soft spoken Sport-Pesa winner pointed out that he made betting a hobby after winning some tries.

“I could not believe of my win as the midweek jackpot winner. I got the news on Saturday evening. I’m very happy being declared the winner” Oimba noted

The KFS employee added that he has won several times amount as little as Ksh 1,000 Ksh 19,000, Ksh 20,000 and Ksh24,000.

He states" the amount will assist me get into real estate as part of my personal business''

Oimba says he rubbished claims that he would not win any betting game.

“I used to win cash as little as Ksh 1000. So many times, i have also won other cash ranging from 19000 to around twenty four thousand” he said

At the same time, Lilian Awino, Oimba’s wife and a primary school teacher at Jesus Celebration Centre Likoni sub county said she used to sponsor her husband with amount as little as Ksh 150 in order to undertake the betting exercise.

“I used to send him money through M-Pesa as little as Ksh 150. Sometimes he would request for even Ksh 500. I had no doubt" she indicated.

She however explained that she was optimistic her husband would at one time win the betting game.

Awino adds "'my husband win is a reward of his ceaseless efforts to bet"'.

“I knew my husband was using the money to bet but did not want to tell him anything. I knew he would at one time win” Awino said.

Sport-Pesa, in Kenya, is owned and operated by Pevans East Africa a company with shareholders from mostly Kenya, Bulgaria, and the United States.

In Italy Sport-pesa is jointly owned with RCS Media, the largest media company in Italy.

It has invested in the development of the local sports leagues and tournaments in Kenya and Tanzania.

The company has signed agreements to build local and international partnerships in soccer rugby, boxing, motorsport, athletics and kabaddi.

Invest more in reproductive health budget- activists petition Mombasa county government

By M warandu Randu Human rights crusaders championing for youth rights have called on the Mombasa county government to pump in more funds in the health kitty in order to boost reproductive health amongst the youth.
