Nutrition requires a joint workforce- Mombasa County Public health Chief officer tells Mombasa locals

The department of public health in Mombasa County has called on a joint approach by the locals towards nutrition as a key component in public health sector management.

The department says health issue is a concern for every county resident and therefore the need to embrace it.

“Nutrition requires a concerted effort by various stakeholders; parents have their role, so do health officers and the other stakeholders. If we all come together we shall be able deal with nutrition deficiencies in this county” she pointed out

Speaking to journalists in Mombasa during a nutrition awareness campaign forum organized by DSW Mombasa county public chief officer Aisha Abubakar said the department of public health is currently conducting a nutrition awareness campaign in order to sensitize the public on the importance in society.

She appealed to Mombasa county leaders to work together closely with the health department in order to scale up nutrition within the county.

“We are currently holding a series of awareness meetings to sensitize the public on the significance of nutrition” she stated

The county Chief officer added that the health department is engaging both public and private entities in order to construct lactating rooms geared towards improving nutrition amongst lactating mothers.

At the same time, Mombasa County Nutrition co-ordinator Aisha Bakari called on locals to engage their bodies actively by taking part in physical activities.

She adds “about half of Mombasa county population is obese; there is therefore the need for people to take part in physical activities”

She further called on lactating mothers to exclusively breast feed their babies in order to avoid bringing up malnourished children.

“I’m calling on lactating mothers to breastfeed their children. This is because we shall be able to avoid cases of malnourishment” she said.

Invest more in reproductive health budget- activists petition Mombasa county government
