The Methodist Church in Kenya has issued a stern
warning to the political elites against conducting early campaigns.
The leadership of the church instead says politicians
should focus on the role vested to them by the electorates.
“This is not the time for our politicians to conduct
campaigns, rather they should focus on developing the country” he said
Addressing journalist in Mombasa on Sunday East
African Methodist Church Rev Bishop Joseph Ntombura said it is high time
elected leaders concentrate on development.
He urged politicians to avoid mere rhetoric adding that they (politicians) will be voted
in the next general election based on their track records.
“I want to tell them
that Kenyans will only elect politicians who brought in development to the
people. Kenyans will use certain parameters to vote them in come 2022” the
clergy stated
The Rev lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta’s efforts to
combat graft in public coffers.
He says the Methodist church fully supports the war
on graft.
“We are behind the President’s gear to fight
corruption in public offices. I call on our leaders to do the same” Ntombura
noted
The religious leader condemned all the recent terror
attacks including the Dusit D2 attack in Nairobi which claimed about 20
innocent lives.
He however termed the terror attacks as acts of
cowardice aimed at terrorizing Kenyans.
“Again as a church we condemn the terror attacks
that occurred in our country recently. The aim of terrorists is to frighten Kenyans”
he pointed out.
He called on the government to deploy more police
officers in public entities in order to safeguard the interests of the wider
public.
On her part, Rose Juma an elder and a pioneer of Mombasa
Synod Methodist Church called on the religious leaders to work together for the
wider interests of the church.
“Differences started long time ago. The ongoing
leadership wrangles should be resolved according to godly principles”
She urged the church leadership to resolve the
wrangles in accordance with the laid down Godly principles.
The elder argues that church differences started centuries
ago advising that such divisions should be resolved peacefully.

inducted in January 2013.
