Tanzanian immigration officials finally release Zuma Madilo after proving his innocence

At last, Hamisi Zuma, a Kenyan who has been in the hands of Tanzanian immigration department is finally released.

The Tanzanian authorities held him for a total of eleven days.

Addressing the media in Mombasa on Saturday at the Pandya Memorial Hospital Haki Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid said Madilo was mistakenly arrested by Tanzanian authorities.

The human rights defender noted that the Tanzania immigration department has totally proved Madilo’s innocence.

“We are happy as an organization to start this year. This is a success to us all. He was mistaken that is why the authorities arrested him” he said

He lauded the Kenyan embassy in Tanzania for their commitment towards solving the problem.

Khalid lauded foreign affairs diplomats attached in Tanzania including foreign affairs cabinet Cabinet secretary Monica Juma and Dan Kazungu, Kenyan ambassador in Tanzania for their commitment towards the problem.

“As HAKI Africa I want to thank the foreign diplomats for their joint efforts towards this. It has come to my realization that the Kenyan embassy in Tanzania is really working” the activist noted

Khalid further advised Kenyans facing similar problems to contact their embassies in those countries.

Meanwhile, Hamisi Zuma said he has been travelling several times in Tanzania.

Zuma further stated that he is free to travel back and forth taking into consideration that both the two countries have cleared him.

“I have my relatives in Tanzania but the authorities wanted to clear my name that is why I had to follow all the immigration procedures” he explained

He said he has been conducting a boutique business in Tanzania.

On Thursday, Hussein Khalid was arrested by the Tanzanian authorities in his quest to bring back Zuma in Kenya.

Khalid was however released shortly after arrest.

HAKI Africa has been at the forefront in championing for the rights of Kenyans in different parts of the country.
