Give women opportunities- FIDA petitions government

Federation of Women Lawyers Kenya Coast chapter has urged the government to grant leadership opportunities to women as the world celebrates women’s day.

FIDA Kenya argues that women's rights are guaranteed by the Kenyan constitution.

Speaking to journalist in Mombasa on Friday, during a legal aid clinic at Likoni Anglican Church, Caroline Mboku, FIDA Kenya Coast Region Representative said women rights are not a question of debate.

The FIDA representative however says there is a need for women to fight for their own rights as enshrined as stipulated by the law.

“The rights of women aren’t debatable. The laws are there and what we need is to see the government give women opportunities” she noted

She called on women willing to get into leadership to undertake early preparation.

Mboku also noted that FIDA has successfully championed over 70 per cent of the cases brought to their desk.

“There are many success stories that we have done as FIDA. What I want to tell women is that they should come out and fight for their own rights” Mboku explained

The FIDA representative further noted that women are currently empowered and more informed compared to yester-years.

The federation of women lawyers FIDA –Kenya is a non-profit, non partisan and non-governmental, membership organization committed to the creation of a society free from all forms of discrimination against women.

It provides legal aid on women’s right monitoring, advocacy education and referral.

Mombasa Judge Gives Custody Of Minor to Her Sex Worker Mother

High court Justice John Onyiego has for the second time ordered that a child who had been earlier awarded to the father by a lower court which found the mother unfit to be shared among the couple. Invest more in reproductive health budget- activists petition Mombasa county government

By M warandu Randu Human rights crusaders championing for youth rights have called on the Mombasa county government to pump in more funds in the health kitty in order to boost reproductive health amongst the youth.
