Investigate development projects in Mombasa county- Coast CSO's tell investigative bodies.

Civil society groups in Mombasa county are calling on investigative bodies to dig into developments projects purported to be implemented by Mombasa county government.

According to the lobby groups a recent report by the auditor general shows that the county has misappropriated public funds in the transport department.

Speaking to the media in Mombasa on Thursday Local Empowerment For Good Governance Executive Director Lucas Fondo said the current tug of war between the senior officials and the members of county assembly is unconstitutional.

He said urged ward representatives to move on with the spirit of oversight saying they are mandated by the constitution.

"MCAs should go on with their mandate of oversight as stipulated in the constitution. The threats from the county executive is geared towards intimidating them" he insisted

The human rights crusader termed the ongoing push and pull between senior county officials and the MCAs as intimidation with no legal ground.

He appealed to the investigative agencies, including the office of the Director of Criminal Investigations Ethics, The Auditor general and Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission to investigate the usage of public funds within the county.

Meanwhile, Zedekia Adika an advocate based at Kituo Cha Sheria claims that the voice of MCAs is about to be submerged following a recent ruling by a Kakamega law court that they (MCAs) have no mandate to impeach county executives members.

Adika argues that checks are meant to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.

"If this ruling is not challenged the senate and the national assembly will be paralyzed in their functions" he noted

The advocate states that failure to challenge the ruling both the national assembly and the senate their functions will be paralyzed

He called on ward reps to stand up in the fight of their constitutional right.

On the other hand, Mwalimu Rama Kenya Community Support Centre senior programs officer urged MCAs to undertake their constitutional mandate.

He says the the governors have no mandate to fire members of county assemblies.

"I want to tell MCAs to go on with that spirit. They are here constitutionally" he noted

Invest more in reproductive health budget- activists petition Mombasa county government
