Health department launches first lactating facility at Huduma Centre Mombasa

Mombasa county department of health in partnership with the directorate of Public Health Mombasa County has officially launched a lactating facility at Huduma Centre Mombasa County.

Speaking to the Media in Mombasa on Tuesday Mombasa county executive in charge of health Hazel Khoitaba said the facility will enable lactating mothers breastfeed their babies as recommended by health experts.

She says the opening of the facility is a major milestone as it is the first lactating facility in the entire republic.

“This is the first one in this republic. Mombasa County has taken the lead” she noted

The health CeC reiterated the county’s commitments in ensuring that locals access better health care.

Ms Hazel further indicated that the facility will ensure that lactating mothers and Huduma staff are able to breast feed their babies up to the recommended period.

“The county government is committed to ensure that there better healthcare. It will ensure that the entire staff and those mothers coming in for serves are taken care of” she noted

On his part Mombasa Public Health Director of Health Dr Shem Patta says the launch of the facility is a major milestone in maternal health.

He noted that the facility will ensure that lactating mothers breast their babies with ease.

“This is a major milestone in the health sector. Again I want to recognize the efforts made by the business community in this partnership” Dr Patta stated

He applauded efforts by the business community in realization of the health facility.

Dr. Patta argued that lactating mothers undergo dozens of challenges arguing that the introduction of the heath facility will help resolve some of the critical challenges.

“I understand there are challenges that lactating mothers face. This facility will help address some of those challenges” he said

Mombasa county CEC in charge of health Ms. Hazel Khoitaba says the county aims at reaching the World health Organization recommendations of 80 per cent adding that the county is currently at 70 per cent in terms of exclusive breast feeding.

Invest more in reproductive health budget- activists petition Mombasa county government
