Implement Ksh 57 million annual CVE action plan to later-Mombasa Activist tells Tana River Governor Godhana

Kenya Community Support Centre, (KECOSCE) a Mombasa
based civil society organization is calling on Tana River Governor Major Rtd Dhadho
Godhana to fully implement the recently launched CVE action strategy plan in a
bid to address teething challenges within the county.
KECOSCE argues that the county should prioritize in
developing the infrastructural network if the current challenges are to be
addressed to the later.
Speaking to the press in Mombasa early this week, Kenya
Community Support Centre Executive Director Phylis Muema says there is need to
address some of the challenges including the health sector.
‘I urge Tana
River governor to implement the CVE action plan this will assist in addressing
some the challenges facing. Health is still a concern in Tana River County and
this should be addressed” she noted
The ED further noted that there need for the county
government to harness the available resources in a bid to solve biting challenges
within the county.
Muema further indicated that there is need for the
county to diversify resources to all the wards within the county.
“The county administration should harness resources
available in Tana River County. There is also the need to diversify resources
to the wards level” the director stated
She is calling on the county to fully invest in
education sector adding that it is the key to a more vibrant county.
The human rights activists also lauded governor Dhadho
for largely investing in tertiary education including technical and vocational
training and technical institutions.
“It is high time the county invests in education. I know
the governor has heavily invested in TVETS, which is commendable” she explained
Commenting on the inflated corruption in the country
the activist urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to put strict measures to Kenyans
implicated with graft.
She says anybody civil servant found guilty of corruption
should carry his/her own cross.
Says Muema “County governments are also conduits of
corruption. County officials are siphoning money into their own accounts”
The soft spoken activist holds the opinion that several
counties have been accused of looting public funds and siphoning them into
their.
She urged the
director of public prosecutions Nurdin Hajj to charge all civil servants
implicated with graft.
“I want to tell the DPP to charge all those found
guilty of looting public funds. It is high time they face the law. Most of the
graft suspects are still walking scot free” she said
Commenting on the latest Ethiopian plane crash the
director urged the government to put strict measures to international airlines
operating in Kenya.
“The Kenyan government should put strict measures to
international airlines. We should not compromise on the safety of airline
passengers” she exclaimed
She is of the opinion that safety of airways and
airlines should be prioritized by the Kenyan government.
During the launch of the Action Plan Tana River
Governor Dhadho Godhana reiterated the county’s commitment to combat Al-shabaab
militia.
He admitted that the county has recently been used
as a recruiting ground by Al-shabaab militiamen.
“There is no reason for youths joining Al-shabaab on
the excuse that there are no jobs. I also tarmacked before getting a job but I did
not give up. We have many here who without jobs but are they joining the
militia? he querried
KECOSCE played a crucial role in the formulation of
the Tana River County Action Plan.
It has a total of eleven pillars including among others;
security, political, education, training and capacity building arts and culture
and economic and child protection.
Some of the areas identified as hotspots for violent
extremists within the county include: Tana Delta, Laza, Nyangoro, Garsen among
others.
