Erect more youth friendly facilities- Mombasa activists urge county government

Mombasa county activists are recommending for the erection of more youth friendly facilities in order to address youth challenges.

According to the youths, Mombasa County has constructed very few youth friendly facilities to cater for the needs of the young people.

Addressing the media in Mombasa on Thursday Robert Aseda Network for Adolescents and Youth of Africa programme co-ordinator said youth facilities should be factored in the in the Mombasa County Fiscal Strategy Paper.

He opined for the construction of the youth friendly facilities at the ward level.

“I want to urge the county to build several youth friendly facilities in all the wards” he said

He urged the county government to prioritize on the reproductive health of young people.

“We have seen that a lot needs to be done in the fiscal strategy paper. Again it is the role of the county to consider the young people” he pointed out

Gaitano Muganda, Dream Achievers Youth Organization Sexual Reproduction and Rights officer said there is a need for the county government to increase the budgetary allocation for sexual reproductive health.

He is of the opinion that public participation should be diversified to sub county level.

“There is a need for the county to allocate more resources for sexual reproductive health. More medical staff should be employed to look into the welfare of young people” he said

Meanwhile, Joscar Amondi, a human rights crusader from INEND lauded the strides made by the county in addressing challenges facing young people.

The activist however insists that service delivery still remains a challenge.

“Although the county has made significant progress in addressing some of the challenges facing young people, service delivery still remains a critical challenge” Joscar said

On the issue of public participation, the activist recommends for a comprehensive health services in public health facilities.

The meeting hosted by NAYA in partnership with DAYO was attended by representatives from over 10 civil society organizations in Mombasa County.

It was geared towards analyzing the Mombasa County Fiscal Strategy Paper 2019-2020.

Invest more in reproductive health budget- activists petition Mombasa county government

By M warandu Randu Human rights crusaders championing for youth rights have called on the Mombasa county government to pump in more funds in the health kitty in order to boost reproductive health amongst the youth.
