Kenya Ports Authority stands at 2.65 Million TEUs- KPA Managing Director have said.
He says currently projected customer index stands at
95 per cent with projected revenue
of 64.09 billion.
Mombasa port has a capacity of 2.65 million TEUs
while our projected revenue is ksh 64.09
billion. We have an international compliance of 99.9 percent” he said
Addressing East African Port stakeholders in Mombasa
on Friday during the official launch of the five year strategic plan dated 2018-2022 the MD said the plan will
assist in improving efficiency at the Port facility.
He noted that
the strategy focuses on four thematic areas including customer service
excellence operation excellence business growth and good governance
“We are focusing on four themes, business growth,
good governance and operation excellence” he explained
He says the thematic concerns are geared towards fostering
business growth at the port.
At the same time Kenya ports authority board
chairperson Gen Rtd Joseph Kibwana says the plan has come at an opportune time
when the country is focusing on harnessing the potentials in the blue economy
sector.
The chair further indicated that the plan is fully aligned
to the vision 20230 through flagship projects that support blue economy.
The plan is coming at the right time a time when the
country is focusing on harnessing the potentials in the maritime industry” he
said
Meanwhile National assembly Transport Committee
chair David Pkosing urged the authority to engage the committee in the
implementation of the strategic plan.
He says all public entities require approval of the law by the national assembly.
“I want you to involve the national assembly in all
your undertakings. This is a public entity and everything you do requires our
approval” Pkosing noted
Pkosing further noted urged the authority work
together with the committee on delegated legislation in order to work within
the mandate of the constitution.
He lauded the efforts made by the authority in
formulation of the strategic plan.
“I urge you to engage us so that you do not
contravene the law. This is quite a good move as it gives the authority
direction in the next five years”
According to KPA MD Daniel Manduku the five year strategic
plan is geared towards the authority a world class port of choice
He adds “we are committed to provide efficient and competitive
port services in order to facilitate global trade”
