Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega says national
census is key before the referendum debate picks on.
The legislator argues that basic issues should be
fully addressed to the later.
“There are basic issues that need to be addressed
before this debate picks on. First we have to conduct the national census” he
said
The lawmaker however says it is not the right time
for Kenyans politicians to spark the referendum debate.
He wants the political elites to deliver the
promises they vowed to Kenyans.
“I believe this is not the right time for
politicians to bring this debate on the ground. Elected leaders should first
deliver” he noted
Speaking to the press in Mombasa on Friday the legislator
said referendum issue is a constitutional right for all Kenyans.
He however is of the opinion that before the
referendum debates picks up the executive should be expanded to accommodate
legislators and member of county assemblies.
“Referendum is a constitutional right for all Kenyans.
But before that I want the executive to be expanded to accommodate MPs and MCAs”
he opined
The law maker is of the view that presidential term should
be limited to seven years.
He says a president serving a single seven years
term is guaranteed to deliver to Kenyans.
“I’m of the opinion that the president should serve
for a single term of seven years. I want to assure you that any president
serving a seven year term will deliver than the current seven years” the soft
spoken lawmaker said
The legislator urged politicians to deliver to their
constituents.
He proposes for the creation of a prime minister’s
post.
“I fully support the creation of the prime minister’s
post” he noted
