The scripture Union of Kenya Directorate has called on Kenyans to invest in the youth to save them from the myriad of challenges they face.

Speaking to the press in Mombasa on Saturday Scripture Union of Kenya SUK Director Nancy Kahuthia cited drug and substance abuse and early pregnancies as some of the challenges facing the youth.

“I want to urge parents, teachers and other partners to invest in the youth, in terms of allocating fund to empower youth in this country”

The director said there is a need for a combined effort between various stakeholders to address the issue.

She said there is a need for all partners to develop a youth based strategy that provides clear guidelines on the challenges facing youths in the country.

“We need to come together and come up with a proper guideline in order to address these challenges” she noted

The director’s sentiment was echoed by Coast region Scripture Union of Kenya Director Michael Ngure.

Mr Ngure attributed the steady decline in ethical values among the youth to failure to adhere to biblical teachings.

“Parents do not understand and adhere to biblical teachings that is why there is this decline in moral values” the director said

Last year over 14,000 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education sat their examination while pregnant.
